Leading automobile manufacturers Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) today rolled out its 15 HP tractor 'Yuvraj 215' for farmers of hill states.

"Mahindra's Yuvraj 215 is compact, fuel efficient and easy to operate tractor, suitable for hill farms," claimed Sunil Johnson, Senior General Manager, M&M, said.

Being the first tractor in this segment, it has a water cooled single cylinder engine, side shift gear lever, ensuring comfort for the operator and hydraulic lift of 450 kg, he added.

Johnson said the objective behind adding the tiny tractors is to increase the farm productivity by facilitating mechanised farming in hilly areas where use of big tractors was not possible due to difficult terrain.

"Having realised the low penetration of tractors amongst farmes at the bottom of the pyramid, we felt a distinct need to create a product for farmers with small landholdings", he added.

The Yuvraj 215 has many firsts to its credit and apart from offering an unbeatable value proposition and world class technology at an attractive price, it is a part of our vision to deliver Farm Tech Prosperity to farmers in Himachal through its multiple application features".

He revealed that Yuvraj 215 is equipped with various features offered for the first time in small tractors and this new tractor has already become popular in lower hills of Himachal like Una and Kangra. "We are now conducting the trials for Shimla and Solan so that it could be use to the apple orchardists also", he said.

He said it was a wonderful replacement for the oxen. "It can work wonders for the vegetable farming if cost benefit ratio is taken", he said.

He said the tractor could also be used for transportation of vegetables, farm produce. "The garbage management is an emerging concept. We can use this tractor for garbage collection from narrow lanes in cities. For that the Municipal bodies could be contacted," he said.
