Mahindra unleashes SsangYong REXTON

Marking its presence into the premium Special Utility Vehicle segment, automotive player Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M) on Wednesday launched the SsangYong Rexton, a luxurious, powerful and premium global SUV.

Special Utility Vehicles or SUVs as they are better known is showing a impressive growth this year, compared to overall automobile growth in India.

The SUV growth this year is expected to be over 50 per cent compared to around 30 per cent growth achieved last year.

Vijay Nakra, vice president (sales), Automotive division, Mahindra & Mahindra, says better global exposure of Indians and SUVs becoming more affordable is fuelling the growth for SUV segment in the country.

SsangYong Rexton, marks the entry of M&M into premium SUV category.

Commenting on the premium SUV, Nakra said designed and developed by SsangYong in Korea, this is the third generation Rexton, most suitable for the discerning Indian customer. Ssangyong Rexton will retail at a price of Rs 18.01 Lac, ex-showroom Chandigarh for the RX5 version with manual transmission and Rs 20.01 Lac, ex-showroom Chandigarh for the RX7 version with automatic transmission.

The SsangYong Rexton is being manufactured and assembled at Mahindra’s Chakan Plant near Pune by sourcing components from SsangYong Korea and from India.

Ssangyong Rexton, which was launched last month in Mumbai and Delhi, will now be open for bookings at Mahindra dealerships in Chandigarh, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Ludhiana and Patiala.
