Domestic passenger car sales rose 30.46 per cent to 1,48,481 units in May.
In comparison, the industry sold 1,13,810 units in May last year.
According to the figures released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) today, motorcycle sales for the month was up 25.80 per cent to 7,25,311 units from 5,76,537 units in the same month last year.
Total two-wheeler sales in May increased 28.66 per cent to 9,36,555 units from 7,27,933 units in May 2009.
Sale of commercial vehicles jumped by 57.71 per cent to 48,580 units from 30,803 units in the year-ago period, SIAM said.
Total sales of vehicles across categories registered a growth of 30 per cent to 12,08,851 units in May against 9,29,917 units in the same month last year, it added.
