Niit, Ssi Market Share Down, Aptechs Up In 2001: Merrill

There is a churning happening in the information technology education market in India with the market share of the major players changing significantly in 2001, say two reports put out by Merrill Lynch, one each on NIIT and SSI.

The reports said while leader NIIT Ltd has lost market share during the year, Aptech, the number two player in the business, has gained. The number three player in India, SSI, has also seen its fortunes eroding, according to the reports.

As per the study, NIIT has been the biggest loser by 7 percentage points sequentially, while SSI has lost about 4 percentage points.

The study attributes the fast growing international revenues of Aptech to its increasing market share. According the study the relative share of the market leader NIIT, which was 57 per cent amongst the top three slots in March 2001 has come down to 41 per cent by December 01.
