Search engine giant Google on June 21 introduced offline web support for its Android-based Chrome browser. The update is rolling out for Chrome users in India and more than 100 other developing countries, including Nigeria, Indonesia, and Brazil.

“Chrome’s goal is to make the web work well for everyone, everywhere. From building offline capabilities to an automatic data saver, we have launched a number of features to improve web accessibility especially tailored to NBU markets. However, it can be frustrating and hard to access the web when you lose connectivity or spend days disconnected. Spotty connectivity should not stop us from accessing our favourite sites to get information, whether it is recent news or the latest cricket results,” said Google in an official blogpost.

Now, the Chrome browser will automatically download relevant articles, based on what content is most popular in your location. However, the download will be done only when the Chrome is connected to a free, unmetered WiFi network. Chrome will also fetch articles that are relevant, based on browsing history, and if the user has signed into Chrome. You can access these articles, news and web pages even when the internet is not accessible. It therefore keeps you updated even when you not connected to internet.
