The ITI had been set up by the company in the vicinity of the NTPC Korba power station. Built over an area of 10 acres at Chorbhati village near Korba, the company took up the project as part of Community Development initiatives.
The Korba power station of the NTPC has a total installed capacity of 2600 Mw. Besides four units of 500-Mw each, the station has three units of 200-Mw each. The Korba station is one of the stations of NTPC that produces power at the cheapest rate.
The beneficiary states from the NTPC Korba project include Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Daman, Diu and Nagar Haveli.
The NTPC has another power station located in Sipat at Bilaspur. The project, which is the first power station of the company built with super critical technology, has an installed capacity of 2,980 MW.
According to the company spokesperson, an estimated Rs 10 crore has been invested in the ITI project for the skill development. Courses would be initially on the five trades that included Wielder, Fitter, Instrumentation and Mechanics, Electrician and Computer Operator besides Programming Assistant (COPA).
At a function organised in Korba, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh inaugurated the new campus of ITI. Later, he visited the campus and interacted with the stake-holders of the new project.
