Reliance Infrastructure (R-Infra) on Thursday said that it received a Rs 7,200-crore order for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) from Reliance Power (R-Power).

The contract will require R-Infra to construct Reliance Power’s 2,400 megawatt gas-based combined cycle power project at Samalkot in Andhra Pradesh. The turnkey project is expected to start power generation by the end of 2011. Gas and steam turbine orders for the project, have already been placed with General Electric of USA.

“R-Infra’s EPC arm has an order book of Rs 30,700 crore. Currently, more than 25,000 workers are working at various power project sites,” said Lalit Jalan, CEO and wholetime director of Reliance Infra.

Samalkot contract is the third significant power project bagged by R-Infra, from Reliance Power. The other EPC contracts were for the Sasan ultra mega power project in Madhya Pradesh and Butibori in Maharashtra.
