Ravi Uppal quits L&T

Engineering and construction firm Larsen and Toubro (L&T) today said Ravi Uppal, Whole-Time Director and President (Power), has put in his papers.

"The resignation will be effective from September 15, 2012," L&T said in a BSE filing.

A key member in L&T's leadership team, Uppal had joined the company in 2009 as Managing Director of L&T (Power) and in 2010, he was elevated to the Board level.

Uppal lost the race to become the Chief Executive of L&T when the management was rejigged earlier this year.

Before taking on his present responsibility with L&T, he was with ABB Group for over 22 years as its President - Global Markets and Member of the ABB Group Executive Committee, based in Switzerland.

He was also instrumental for establishing and developing Volvo's operations in India from scratch as its Managing Director and Country Manager, before joining L&T.

Uppal studied electrical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi and is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad.
