Reliance Communications (RCom) is planning to spend $80 million (Rs 523 crore) for expanding its data centre facilities in India by adding four more centres in the next one year.

“We will set up two new centers in Mumbai and Bengaluru  and double the capacity of two others. In total, we will add four centers in next 12 months at a cost of $20 million each,” said Bill Barney, chief executive (enterprise division), RCom.

The telco on Wednesday extended its global cloud platform for Indian enterprise customers, who already use the services of 11 data centers owned by RCom. The extension will enable RCom data centre customers to access more than 20 public cloud platforms, including Amazon, Microsoft Azure, Google, Rackspace, as well as access internet software services such as Microsoft Office 365 and Google Apps for work.

Along with its telecom operations, RCom operates data centres in India to cater to its enterprise clients who rent the bandwidth and server of the operator for their IT usages. Worldwide all major telcos have data centre business along with their regular voice and mobile internet services. The firm said its data centre and cloud platform business would soon reach about quarter of RCom's revenue in the next three years.
