The Twitter handle started up with teasers and retweets of photographs of the red carpet at the venue and a photograph of chairman Mukesh Ambani arriving with wife Nita.
At its 41st AGM, it might be one of the older companies in the market, but RIL beat many of its younger rivals in reaching out to stakeholders. It used the handle, named after a presentation it had put up to explain the KG basin realities last year, to livetweet the AGM. That presentation had explained the complexities behind the KG-D6 block when controversy around gas pricing had erupted with allegations and counter-allegations in the run-up to the general elections of 2014.
On Friday, in 47 tweets, the handle described the entire speech by Ambani with the hashtag #RILAGM. The tweets were retweeted several times, including by familiar handles used by RIL staff. Though #RILAGM did not manage to make it into the top trends, Ambani was among the top-10 trends till late afternoon.
The handle doesn't say it is the official handle of the company, nor does it have the blue tick mark, the symbol of verification by Twitter. It has a collage of pictures showing logo, refineries, retail stores, Rohit Sharma, the captain of Mumbai Indian's IPL team, and Reliance Foundation chief and RIL director Nita Ambani. With over 1,100 tweets, the account has over 27,000 followers. It has become the voice of the company since September.
