The tool down strike which paralised Mahindra & Mahindra's car and utility vehicle making plant at Nashik has been called off with production resuming from today.

The strike, which began on Monday night and extended till today morning, resulted in the loss in production of at least 650 vehicles. The company however has already clarified that it has an inventory of three weeks.

"Mahindra & Mahindra has announced that the tool down strike by employees of its Nashik plant which started on March 5, 2013 at 6.00pm as well as the proposed strike from March 11, 2013 has been called off", a statement from the company said.

The 3000-odd workers had gone on strike following differences over wage negotiations and suspension of an office bearer of their union. The workers were demanding reinstatement of the suspended worker who had a pending inquiry against him.

The management and the union are set to finalise the new salary structure before the end of next week. The three-year wage agreement got expired in February but was not renewed by the management, claim workers, which led to the strike.

Operation in all the shifts is expected to be normal soon. The management and the union will continue their ongoing dialogue so as to reach a mutual agreement. The management expects the production loss to be made goo, the company further added.

The strike had brought the facility, which makes the Verito sedan, Xylo, Scorpio and Bolero, to a complete stand-still. The Nashik facility of M&M makes 550 vehicles per day.
