Tata Motors Jan sales rise 15%

Auto maker Tata Motors today reported 15 per cent increase in its January sales this year at 75,423 units as compared to 65,478 units sold in the same month of 2010.

The homegrown firm's total passenger vehicles sales in the domestic market in January 2011 stood at 30,212 units, which is a jump of 15 per cent from the same month previous year, the company said in a statement.

The company's small car Nano's sales during the month stood at 6,703 units, up by 68 per cent.

'Indica' reported sales of 10,591 units, which is 8 per cent lower compared to sales in January 2010, Tata Motors said.

'Indigo' family recorded sales of 8,456  units, a rise of 17 per cent over the same month in the previous year. Sales of Sumo, Safari, Aria and Venture range increased by 26 per cent to 4,462 units.

In the domestic commercial vehicles segment, the company's sales increased by 12 per cent, as it sold 40,263 units last month compared with 35,957 units sold in January 2010.

While light commercial vehicles' sales during the month were at  23,776 units, a growth of 17 per cent over the previous year, medium and heavy commercial vehicles' sales stood at 16,487 units, growth of 5 per cent compared with the year-ago period.

The company exports grew by 51 per cent to 4,948 units sold last month compared to 3,276 units sold in January 2010.
