India's largest IT services provider Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), today announced it has partnered with the Workers Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau of California (WCIRB), to develop and rollout WCIRB’s STAR operating system. The financial details of the contract were not disclosed.

This new system will modernize WCIRB’s interactions with insurers and serve as an enabling platform to deliver on its new business strategy.

The significant improvements brought about by the STAR ‘Phase 1’ rollout include capture and auditing of unit statistical reports, along with production, publication and distribution of experience rating worksheets. The second phase includes policy data-management tools that will enable electronic policy data reporting for insurers, and the initial release of Star Online, a new service for carriers to manage USR data submissions, correspondence and more.

With this deployment, the WCIRB will begin decommissioning its mainframe system and, in conjunction with the online services provided via STAR Online, will be positioned to provide new operational efficiencies.

Bill Mudge, WCIRB President & CEO. “It represents a tremendous leap forward in our capabilities and offers insurers an opportunity to streamline their interactions with us, reduce costs, and improve operational performance. TCS committed to bring this project home for us on time and on budget and they fully delivered on that promise. ”

“The STAR project undertaken by the WCIRB is an example of a true transformational program. The replacement of mainframe systems allows the WCIRB to both streamline many internal processes, as well as greatly improve the efficiency of its interactions and communications with its members”, said Suresh Muthuswami, President, Insurance and Healthcare at TCS.
