The delay in arrival of monsoon is causing consternation not only among the parch-throated people, but also power-starved Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL).
The monsoon causes considerable dip, almost 2,000 Mw in demand for power as per a UPPCL mandarin, both in the urban and rural areas. It would give the much needed headroom to the UPPCL to manage the demand and supply gap better, without much power rostering.
“The monsoon would certainly bring down the total demand to the level of 6,500 Megawatt (Mw) from over 8,500 Mw at present,” UPPCL, Director (Distribution), Jawahar Lal told Business Standard.
The rains not only soften the demand for power in urban pockets, but bring about considerable dip in the need for power to run tube wells for irrigation purposes in the hinterland.
Meanwhile, the Corporation continues to be hard-pressed to meet the current demand for power in Uttar Pradesh, although Lal claimed the situation was not as bad as been estimated.
