The KK Birla Group-owned Upper Ganges Sugar and Industries Ltd (UGSIL) today said it has registered a net profit of Rs 15.28 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2011.
The company had posted a net loss of Rs 10.87 crore for the corresponding period of the previous year, it said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
The total income of the company in the period under consideration rose to Rs 248.31 crore as compared to Rs 110.51 crore in the year-ago period.
UGSIL's total expenditure in the January-March quarter also rose to Rs 210.86 crore as against Rs 115.78 crore in the same period of the previous year.
The Kolkata-based company has three sugar manufacturing units with an aggregate crushing capacity of about 18,000 tonnes of sugarcane per day (TCD).
Shares of the company today closed at Rs 58.65 on the BSE, up 5.87% from its previous close.
