Despite slowdown in the automobile market in India, Swedish luxury car maker  Volvo has recently launched its V40 Cross Country in Pune.

With this, Volvo is eying major share of Indian SUV market and will aggressively compete with German SUV manufactures like Audi, BMW and Mercedes. Priced at Rs 28.5 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi, the V40 Cross Country will be available in D3 Engine, 2.0 Litre 5 Cylinder, 6 Speed Automatic transmissions with 150HP and a 350 Nm torque.

Volvo Cars has planned to sell over 20,000 vehicles by 2020. The company is also expanding its dealer network and has appointed 14 dealers across India. With the launch of Cross Country, Volvo has observed increase of 20 per cent in its sales. Also, it will launch two new models of sedan S60 and SUV XC60 - in October to boost the sales. In the first quarter of this year, the company sold 276 units, up 140 per cent from the year-ago period.

Commenting on this, Tomas Ernberg, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India said, "The luxury car market of India is growing rapidly. Even in recession time, we are receiving good response for V40 Cross Country. The car has received bookings of about 70 units and the company targets sell of about 120 units this year."
