Madhusudan Khemka, chairman of the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTA), said the country saw a total 2,310-Mw wind capacity addition in the last financial year.
The figure could have been higher if some of the state-specify issues had been resolved early, Khemka added.
In a letter published in the association’s internal magazine, he said the market response to the accelerated depreciation (AD) programme had been good, adding the AD market would cross one giga watt (Gw) capacity in the current fiscal.
“Incentives of AD, Generation-Based Incentive (GBI) and 80 IA benefits have enhanced investments in the sector,” he said.
“Irrespective of the policies at the Centre, there is an urgent need to work with states on the wind power projects,” he added, pointing out the power evacuation and land were the major impediments to the project execution.
In 2011-12, the wind energy sector industry saw an addition of 3,200 Mw capacity, which had dropped to 1,700-Mw in the following fiscal.
