Xiaomi founder, chairman and CEO Lei Jun met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday to discuss the Chinese smartphone giant's plans to manufacture in India under the government's flagship 'Make in India' initiative and create jobs in the country.

Lei arrived in India on Sunday for a week-long trip. During his meeting with the prime minister, Lei reaffirmed the company's commitment to opening its second manufacturing plant in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, and it's plans to create more than 20,000 jobs in the country in the next three years.

The meeting ended with Lei presenting Modi a Made-In-India Redmi 4A with all its components displayed in a glass box, and the two taking a selfie together using the recently-launched Redmi Note 4.

Lei also met with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who also holds the additional charge of defence, and Minister of Law & Justice and Electronics and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Xiaomi officially entered the Indian market over two years ago. According to the company, India is its most important market outside of China. Xiaomi India achieved annual revenue of over $1 billion for the calendar year of 2016. According to analyst firm IDC, Xiaomi India has become the number one selling smartphone brand online and the second-largest smartphone brand in India in Q4 of 2016.
