A total 57 people were arrested and 6 firearms seized by the police in connection with the violent clash between CPI(M) and ruling Trinamool Congress in South 24 Parganas district on Tuesday.
District police superintendent Pravin Tripathi told PTI that while 16 people were arrested yesterday itself, 41 others were arrested during night long raids. "We have also recovered 6 firearms and 12 rounds."
Quizzed about allegations of bullet injuries inflicted on CPI(M) cadres by TMC supporters, Tripathi said, "As of now I don't have any injury report either of bullet or of something else."
Five to six workers belonging to both parties were injured and ten vehicles were damaged - seven of them set ablaze during the clash at Bamunghata in South 24 Parganas district yesterday.
CPI(M) top leader Kanti Ganguly had alleged that the Left party supporters were attacked while sources in the party had claimed that three persons had received bullet injuries and were admitted to hospital.
