Andhra Governor accepts resignations of ministers

The two Cabinet members names figured in charge sheet by CBI, which is probing YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's disproportionate assets case

Andhra Pradesh governor, ESL Narasimhan, on Sunday accepted the resignations of home minister P Sabita Indra Reddy and roads and buildings minister Dharmana Prasada Rao.

The two senior members of the Kiran Kumar Reddy's Cabinet had tendered their resignations on May 20, after their names figured in the charge sheets filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing YSR Congress president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's disproportionate assets case.

It may be noted that the Congress high command had sent clear signals that they cannot continue in office after having been charge sheeted by the CBI.

The ministers' criminal involvement relates to the high-profile quid pro quo investments case covering a bundle of government decisions with Jagan being accused No 1. Jagan has been in a local jail for the past one year as multiple attempts by him at securing a bail were rejected at all levels, including by the Supreme Court.

Dharmana's name figured in the CBI charge-sheet on irregularities in allotment of vast tracts of land to the port-cum-industrial corridor - Vanpic - project while the CBI found lapses in the grant of prospecting licences to Dalmia Cements when Sabita Indra Reddy was mines minister.

According to Raj Bhavan sources, even as the resignations were accepted, Congress leaders are apprehending that names of a few other ministers were likely to figure in the charge sheets in the coming days.
