The Institute of Electronic Governance (IEG), an IT initiative of the Andhra Pradesh government, has extended its memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Oracle India to implement the latter's Oracle Academy's computer science curriculum in 400 institutions in the state.

Under the extended MoU, 50,000 students and 1,000 faculty in the state will be introduced to Oracle technology in Oracle Academy's 'Introduction to Computer Science and Advanced Computer' offerings. Additionally, the academy's content and courseware will be offered as elective modules in at least 100 institutions.

Furthermore, under the 'Train the Trainer' courses, 150 faculty members will use the academy's infrastructure to train other teachers, which will begin in January 2014, , Oracle said in a press release on Monday.

The introduction to computer curricula include database design and programming with SQL, database design with PL/SQL, Java fundamentals and Java programming.

The joint initiative will help students develop vital business and technology skills, besides providing them with a competitive advantage as they enter the workforce. In India, more than 685,000 students from 31,000 educational institutions have benefitted from the Oracle Academy programme over the last five years, the release added.

Speaking on the partnership, state ICT minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah said:" With changes in the global marketplace and increasing competition, it has become important for us to deliver advanced technology training to students".
