DATA STORY: India reports fewest Covid-19 deaths in a day since June 8

India on Saturday reported a net reduction of 252 to bring its count of active coronavirus cases down to 281,667, the lowest since July 10 and 72.32 per cent lower than the September 18 peak of 1,017,754. With a continuous trend of daily reductions, India’s share of global active coronavirus cases is down at 1.28 per cent (one in 78). The country added 22,273 cases to take its total caseload to 10,169,118. And with 251 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 147,343, or 1.45 per cent of total confirmed infections.
 
The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India now stands at 9,740,108 – or 95.78 per cent of total caseload – with 22,274 new cured cases being reported on Saturday.

 

• With a daily increase of 22,273 in total cases, India’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen 10,146,845 on Friday to 10,169,118 – an increase of 0.2%. Death toll has reached 147,343, with 251 fatalities in a day. The ninth-most-affected country by active cases, third by fatality, and second by total and recovered cases, India has added 164,519 cases in the past 7 days.
• India now accounts for 1.28% of all active cases globally (one in every 78 active cases), and 8.38% of all deaths (one in every 12 deaths).
• Backwards from here, the last 1 million cases for India have come in 33 days.
• The count of active cases across India has seen a net decline of 252, compared with 1930 on Thursday. The states that have reported the highest net increase in active cases are Maharashtra (1933), Kerala (875), Uttarakhand (179), Bihar (70), and Uttar Pradesh (60).
• With 22,274 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate has improved to 95.78%; the fatality rate remains unchanged at 1.45%.
• The Indian states and UTs with the worst case fatality rates at present are Punjab (3.20%), Maharashtra (2.57%), and Gujarat (2.20%). The rate in as many as 13 is higher than the national average.
• India’s new daily closed cases stand at 22,525 — 251 deaths and 22,274 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 1.11%.
• India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 0.2%.
• India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 316.1 days, and for deaths at 406.5 days.
• Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Kerala (5397), Maharashtra (3431), West Bengal (1541), Uttar Pradesh (1414), and Madhya Pradesh (1031).
• Among states with more than 25,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Himachal Pradesh (90.29%), Kerala (90.83%), Uttarakhand (92.15%), Chhattisgarh (93.41%), and Gujarat (93.79%).
• India on Friday conducted 853,527 coronavirus tests, taking the total count of tests conducted so far in the country to 167,159,289. The test positivity rate recorded was 2.6%.
• Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases) – are Maharashtra (15.43%), Goa (12.96%), Chandigarh (11.09%), Nagaland (9.94%), and Kerala (9.62%).
• Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Kerala (11.05%), Manipur (7.64%), Maharashtra (5.68%), Goa (4.79%), and Nagaland (4.42%).
• Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (414289), J&K (277795), Andhra Pradesh (220815), Kerala (216752), and Karnataka (205392).
• The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (1913382), Karnataka (914488), Andhra Pradesh (880430), Tamil Nadu (812142), and Kerala (732084).
• Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported 3,431 new cases to take its tally to 1913382. The state has added 26,575 cases in the past 10 days.
• Karnataka, the second-most-affected state, has reported 1005 cases to take its tally to 914488.
• Andhra Pradesh, the third-most-affected state by total cases, added 355 cases to take its tally to 880430.
• Tamil Nadu has seen its tally going up by 1,027 to 812142.
• Kerala has added 5397 cases to take its tally to 732084.
• Delhi has added 758 cases to take its tally to 621439.
• Uttar Pradesh has added 1414 cases to take its tally to 579982.
