DATA STORY: India reports fewest Covid-19 deaths in a day since June 8

India on Saturday reported a net reduction of 4071 to bring its count of active coronavirus cases down to 250,183, the lowest since July 5 and 75.42 per cent lower than the September 18 peak of 1,017,754. With a continuous trend of daily reductions, India’s share of global active coronavirus cases is down at 1.09 per cent (one in 92). The country added 19,079 cases to take its total caseload to 10,305,788. And, with 224 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 149,218, or 1.45 per cent of total confirmed infections.
 
The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India now stands at 9,906,387 – or 96.12 per cent of total caseload – with 22,926 new cured cases being reported on Saturday.

 

• With a daily increase of 19,079 in total cases, India’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen 10,286,709 on Friday to 10,305,788 – an increase of 0.2%. Death toll has reached 149,218, with 224 fatalities in a day. Now the tenth-most-affected country by active cases, third by fatality, and second by total and recovered cases, India has added 136,670 cases in the past 7 days.
• India now accounts for 1.09% of all active cases globally (one in every 92 active cases), and 8.12% of all deaths (one in every 12 deaths).
• Backwards from here, the last 1 million cases for India have come in 37 days.
• The count of active cases across India has seen a net decline of 4,071, compared with 3,402 on Thursday. Five states that have reported the highest net increase in active cases are Bihar (75), Ladakh (50), Jharkhand (23), Meghalaya (15), and J&K (7).
• With 22,926 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate has improved to 96.12%; the fatality rate remains unchanged at 1.45%.
• The Indian states and UTs with the worst case fatality rates at present are Punjab (3.21%), Maharashtra (2.56%), and Gujarat (2.17%). The rate in as many as 13 is higher than the national average.
• India’s new daily closed cases stand at 23,150 — 224 deaths and 22,926 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 0.97%.
• India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 0.2%.
• India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 374.1 days, and for deaths at 461.4 days.
• Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Kerala (4991), Maharashtra (3524), West Bengal (1153), Chhattisgarh (932), and Tamil Nadu (921).
• Among states with more than 25,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Kerala (91.08%), Uttarakhand (93.33%), Himachal Pradesh (94.00%), Gujarat (94.32%), and Punjab (94.68%).
• India on Friday conducted 829,964 coronavirus tests, taking the total count of tests conducted so far in the country to 173,941,658. The test positivity rate recorded was 2.3%.
• Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases) – are Maharashtra (15.09%), Goa (12.76%), Chandigarh (10.87%), Nagaland (9.92%), and Kerala (9.62%).
• Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Sikkim (13.58%), Kerala (9.45%), Chandigarh (5.82%), Goa (4.72%), and Maharashtra (4.62%).
• Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (441122), J&K (291739), Andhra Pradesh (227573), Kerala (226754), and Karnataka (215752).
• The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (1935636), Karnataka (920373), Andhra Pradesh (882286), Tamil Nadu (818935), and Kerala (765924).
• Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported 3,524 new cases to take its tally to 1935636. The state has added 33,178 cases in the past 10 days.
• Karnataka, the second-most-affected state, has reported 877 cases to take its tally to 920373.
• Andhra Pradesh, the third-most-affected state by total cases, added 326 cases to take its tally to 882612.
• Tamil Nadu has seen its tally going up by 921 to 818935.
• Kerala has added 4991 cases to take its tally to 765924.
• Delhi has added 585 cases to take its tally to 625954.
• Uttar Pradesh has added 849 cases to take its tally to 586751.
