DATA STORY: India reports most Covid recoveries in a day since Dec 24

India on Tuesday reported a net increase of 10,731 new active coronavirus cases to take its count to 345,377. That is 34 per cent of the September 18 peak of 1,017,754. India’s share of global active coronavirus cases now stands at 1.62 per cent (one in 62). The country is 8^th among the most affected countries by active cases. On Tuesday, it added 40,715 cases to take its total caseload to 11,686,796. And, with 199 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 160,166, or 1.37 per cent of total confirmed infections.
 
With 3,253,095 more people getting Covid-19 vaccine shots on Sunday, India’s total count of those inoculated reached 48,494,594. The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India, meanwhile, reached 11,181,253 – or 95.67 per cent of total caseload – with 29,785 new cured cases being reported on Tuesday.

 

• With a daily increase of 40,715 in total cases, India’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen from 11,599,130 on Sunday to 11,686,796 – an increase of 0.3%. Death toll has reached 160,166, with 199 fatalities in a day. Now the eighth-most-affected country by active cases, fourth by fatality, third by total, and second by recovered cases, India has added 226,965 cases in the past 7 days.
• India now accounts for 1.62% of all active cases globally (one in every 62 active cases), and 5.86% of all deaths (one in every 17 deaths).
• India has so far vaccinated 48,494,594 people. That is 414.97 per cent of its total caseload, and 3.4893 per cent of its population.
• Among Indian states, the top 5 in terms of number of vaccine shots administered are Maharashtra (4554836), Rajasthan (4541540), Uttar Pradesh (4533871), Gujarat (3950792), and West Bengal (3941280).
• Backwards from here, the last 1 million cases for India have come in 56 days.
• The count of active cases across India saw a net increase of 10,731 on Tuesday, compared with 25,559 on Monday. States that have seen the biggest daily net increase in active cases are Maharashtra (5124), Karnataka (774), Chhattisgarh (763), Tamil Nadu (716), and Madhya Pradesh (592).
• With 29,785 new daily recoveries, the most in a day since December 24, India’s recovery rate stands at 95.67%, while fatality rate remains unchanged at 1.37%.
• The Indian states and UTs with the worst case fatality rates at present are Punjab (2.96%), Maharashtra (2.18%), and Gujarat (2.13%). The rate in as many as 15 is higher than the national average.
• India’s new daily closed cases stand at 29,984 — 199 deaths and 29,785 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 0.66%.
• India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 0.4%.
• India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 198.6 days, and for deaths at 557.5 days.
• Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Maharashtra (24645), Punjab (2299), Gujarat (1640), Chhattisgarh (1525), and Karnataka (1445).
• Among states with more than 25,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Punjab (88.39%), Maharashtra (89.22%), Madhya Pradesh (95.49%), Gujarat (95.74%), and Chhattisgarh (95.96%).
• India on Monday conducted 967,459 coronavirus tests to take the total count of tests conducted so far in the country to 235,413,233. The test positivity rate recorded was 4.2%.
• Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases) – are Maharashtra (13.56%), Goa (10.76%), Nagaland (9.06%), Ladakh (9.01%), and Kerala (8.71%).
• Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Maharashtra (23.29%), Chandigarh (11.3%), Punjab (9.92%), Puducherry (9.06%), and Haryana (6.22%).
• Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (701014), J&K (437258), Kerala (361467), Karnataka (311064), and Andhra Pradesh (282869).
• The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (2504327), Kerala (1105467), Karnataka (971647), Andhra Pradesh (894044), and Tamil Nadu (868367).
• Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported 24,645 new cases to take its tally to 2504327. The state has added 222,136 cases in the past 10 days.
• Kerala, the second-most-affected state by total tally, has added 1239 cases to take its tally to 1105467.
• Karnataka, the third-most-affected state, has reported 1445 cases to take its tally to 971647.
• Andhra Pradesh has added 310 cases to take its tally to 894044.
• Tamil Nadu has seen its tally going up by 1385 to 868367.
• Delhi has added 888 cases to take its tally to 648872.
• Uttar Pradesh has added 538 cases to take its tally to 608076.
