DATA STORY: With over 3 mn shots in a day, India has now vaccinated 2.4% population

India on Tuesday reported a net increase of 4,170 to take its count of active coronavirus cases to 223,432. That is 78.05 per cent lower than the September 18 peak of 1,017,754. India’s share of global active coronavirus cases now stands at 1.08 per cent (one in 93). The country is 11^th among the most affected countries by active cases. On Tuesday, it added 24,492 cases to take its total caseload to 11,409,831. And, with 131 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 158,856, or 1.39 per cent of total confirmed infections.
 
With 3,039,394 more people getting Covid-19 vaccine shots on Monday, India’s total count of those inoculated reached 32,947,432. The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India, meanwhile, reached 11,409,831 – or 96.65 per cent of total caseload – with 20,191 new cured cases being reported on Tuesday.

 

• With a daily increase of 24,492 in total cases, India’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen from 11,385,339 on Monday to 11,409,831 – an increase of 0.2%. Death toll has reached 158,856, with 131 fatalities in a day. Now the eleventh-most-affected country by active cases, fourth by fatality, and second by total and recovered cases, India has added 165,045 cases in the past 7 days.
• India now accounts for 1.08% of all active cases globally (one in every 93 active cases), and 5.95% of all deaths (one in every 17 deaths).
• India has so far vaccinated 32,947,432 people. That is 288.77 per cent of its total caseload, and 2.3711 per cent of its population.
• Among Indian states, the top 5 in terms of number of vaccine shots administered are Rajasthan (3,151,672), Maharashtra (2,858,692), West Bengal (2,608,052), Uttar Pradesh (2,588,894), and Gujarat (2,499,274)
• Backwards from here, the last 1 million cases for India have come in 68 days.
• The count of active cases across India saw a net increase of 4,170 on Tuesday compared with 8,718 on Monday. States that have seen the biggest daily net increase in active cases are Maharashtra (4332), Karnataka (496), Punjab (392), Gujarat (295), and Madhya Pradesh (284).
• With 20,191 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate stands at 96.65%, while fatality rate has come down to 1.39%.
• The Indian states and UTs with the worst case fatality rates at present are Punjab (3.06%), Maharashtra (2.27%), and Gujarat (2.18%). The rate in as many as 15 is higher than the national average.
• India’s new daily closed cases stand at 22,322 — 131 deaths and 20,191 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 0.59%.
• India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 0.2%.
• India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 322.6 days, and for deaths at 840.2 days.
• Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Maharashtra (15051), Punjab (1818), Kerala (1054), Karnataka (932), and Gujarat (890).
• Among states with more than 25,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Punjab (90.96%), Maharashtra (92.07%), Madhya Pradesh (96.69%), Gujarat (96.72%), and Himachal (97.04%).
• India on Monday conducted 873,350 coronavirus tests to take the total count of tests conducted so far in the country to 228,280,763. The test positivity rate recorded was 2.8%.
• Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases) – are Maharashtra (13.23%), Goa (10.86%), Nagaland (9.13%), Ladakh (8.95%), and Kerala (8.86%).
• Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Maharashtra (16.3%), Punjab (11.89%), Chandigarh (8.25%), Goa (6.57%), and Madhya Pradesh (5.46%).
• Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (674188), J&K (422745), Kerala (351021), Karnataka (301726), and Andhra Pradesh (278765).
• The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (2329464), Kerala (1092324), Karnataka (961204), Andhra Pradesh (892008), and Tamil Nadu (860562).
• Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported 15,051 new cases to take its tally to 2329464. The state has added 131,065 cases in the past 10 days.
• Kerala, the second-most-affected state by total tally, has added 1054 cases to take its tally to 1092324.
• Karnataka, the third-most-affected state, has reported 932 cases to take its tally to 961204.
• Andhra Pradesh has added 147 cases to take its tally to 892008.
• Tamil Nadu has seen its tally going up by 836 to 860562.
• Delhi has added 368 cases to take its tally to 644064.
• Uttar Pradesh has added 151 cases to take its tally to 605441.
