To cope with increasing security needs of the expanding Delhi Metro network, the government is set to sanction nearly 4,000 more CISF personnel for protection and frisking duties.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), according to sources, has been wanting to increase the manpower at the 134 Metro stations it guards in the national capital region from the present about 4,000 personnel consisting men and women of the paramilitary force.

Sources said a proposal in this regard will be finalised soon by the Ministry of Home Affairs after the CISF made the request sometime back in view of increasing footfall at the stations and for tightening of security measures.

The fresh requirement is of 3,805 CISF personnel including men, women and commando troops in the quick reaction teams.

The security authorities also require to get an increased manpower as they want to enhance the CCTV coverage area and deploy more CISF personnel at control rooms of the metro stations, sources said.

The CISF has also enhanced the number of its uniformed personnel patrolling the stations area and coaches after 9pm in order to ensure security to women passengers and other commuters.
