CBI raids multiple locations in NHAI corruption matter

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday conducted search operations at multiple locations in Shillong, Guwahati, Gurugram and Bengaluru in connection with alleged irregularities in a National Highway road project in Assam.

 

A CBI source said that they have detained a few NHAI officials and GR Infra Project officials in this connection. The officials are recording their statements.

 

The CBI had registered a case against nine officials of NHAI, including its general managers, project directors, managers and 13 others which comprised of private persons and private companies in April this year.

Rajasthan Congress takes out protest march against ED notices to Gandhis

Congress leaders and workers here on Monday took out a protest march against the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) notices to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party leader Rahul Gandhi.

 

The march from the party's state headquarters to the ED office near Ambedkar Circle was led by Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee president Govind Singh Dotasra and attended by many of the party leaders.

 

Dotasara said that the Modi government at the Centre was resorting to such tactics to divert the attention of the people from issues such as unemployment and inflation.

Mayawati slams demolition of house of accused in Prayagraj, calls it unjust, unfair

Flaying the demolition of the house of an accused in the Prayagraj violence case, BSP chief Mayawati on Monday said an atmosphere of "fear and terror" has been created and that the courts should take cognisance.

 

The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister also demanded that former BJP functionaries Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal, whose remarks against Prophet Mohammad, sparked protests should be arrested.

 

In a series of tweets in Hindi, Mayawati said, "By targeting a particular community, doing demolition using bulldozer, other malicious aggressive actions, crushing the protest, an atmosphere of fear and terror has been created. This is unfair and unjust. The court must take cognisance of the faulty action of targeting the entire family by demolishing the houses."

100 terrorists killed in Kashmir in 2022 so far

Security forces have killed 100 terrorists in Kashmir during counter insurgency operations since the beginning of this year with Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit bearing the maximum brunt as it lost 63 cadres, officials said here on Monday.

"Security forces have eliminated 100 terrorists, including 29 foreigners, since the beginning of this year in Kashmir," the officials said.

They said this was double the number of ultras killed during the corresponding period last year.

"Fifty terrorists including one foreigner were killed in the counter terrorism operations last year in the first five months and 12 days," the officials said.

While 63 of the slain terrorists belonged to banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, 24 others were affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), they said.

Bengal coal smuggling scam: ED now wants to question Rujira Narula

The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is conducting a parallel probe along with the CBI in the multi- crore coal smuggling case in West Bengal, now wants to question Rujira Narula Banerjee, wife of Trinamool Congresss national general secretary and party MP, Abhishek Banerjee.

ED sleuths have already forwarded a notice to Rujira asking her to mention a tentative date and time for her appearance.

Delhi Police imposes sec 144 CrPC ahead of Congress march

Ahead of the proposed march by the Congress leaders, the Delhi Police on Monday imposed section 144 CrPC in the area around party headquarters at Akbar Road here asking them not to violate the law.

All Congress MPs and leaders have proposed to carry out a march in support of their leader Rahul Gandhi, who has to appear before the Enforcement Directorate.

Gandhi has been summoned by the ED in a money laundering case pertaining to the National-herald AJL issue and has to appear before the ED on Monday.
