After several global studies failed to find a link between mobile radiation and brain tumour, an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-led research on the subject has found patterns that establish a link between the two, even as industry-funded research tends to undermine the risk of extended use of cell phones.

An AIIMS professor and his team of neurologists recently analysed results of 22 case-controlled studies conducted globally on 48,452 participants over the past several decades that reported the results for the risk of brain tumour, reported ETHealthworld.

Meta-analysis of the government-funded studies shows a consistent increase in the risk of brain tumour with mobile use of more than 10 years. While summary estimates of government funded studies shows 1.64-time increase in such odds, mixed-funded studies show a 1.05 times increase, the report added.

The study has asserted that mobile phone emit radiation from their antennas. Tissues that are closest to the antennas absorb the energy. Kids, who possess soft tissues near the ear, are also at high risk of suffering from brain cancer, inUth reported

The doctors have further asserted that the people especially, children, adolescents and pregnant women should use headphones and headsets and also not speak on the mobile phone for a long period of time, the report added.
