Mahakaushal Express derails, 22 injured: What we know so far

The cause of the derailment is yet to be ascertained

According to initial reports, around tenty two passengers of the Delhi-bound train were injured in the incident which took place at 2:07 am, the Chief Public Relations Officer, North Central Railway said.

The official said an accident relief train has also been rushed to the site and the injured have been given first-aid.

Around eight coaches from the rear side of the train derailed between Mahoba and Kulpahar stations, the CPRO said.

Senior officials, including the general manager of North Central Railway M C Chauhan, have rushed to site and rescue operations are on.

The cause of the derailment is yet to be ascertained.

Railway officials have operationalised helplines at Jhansi, Gwalior, Banda and Nizamuddin stations to disseminate information to relatives of the passengers.

As mre than 150 people died in the Indore-Patna Express derailed, it became the the deadliest train accident in the last 17 years with four more persons, including a 12-year-old boy, succumbing to their injuries. The incident took place on November 22.

The deaths reported from hospitals pushed the toll to 150 even as railway services resumed on Jhansi-Kanpur section after damaged tracks were replaced between Pukhrayan and Malasa stations.

NIA has found and ISI link into the incident, whcih clearly makes the accident a sagotage.

At least 39 people were killed and about 60 injured as the engine and nine coaches of Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Hirakhand Express jumped the tracks in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district on January 22, 2017. The railways suspect sabotage as the reason for the derailment.


A coal-laden goods train proceeding towards Balharshah derailed at Wihirgaon station in Maharashtra in the early hours affecting rail services, on Janaury 6.

The incident occurred on Kazipet-Balharshah section about 30 kilometres before Balharshah station on South Central Railway (SCR) at around 1 am. Cranes of 140 tonnes capacity have been dispatched from Kazipet and Nagpur to take up the restoration work at the site. Accident Relief Trains (ART) have been rushed from Kazipet and Balharshah to the spot, the release said.


At least 2 people were daed and 10 injured when two coaches and the engine of Guwahati-bound Capital Express from Bihar's Rajendra Nagar Terminal derailed in North Bengal on December 7, 2016. 

The incident took place shortly after 9 pm near Shamuktala Road station, which is about 32 km from Alipurduar Railway Division headquarters. North East Frontier Railway officials said an accident relief train has already reached the spot from Alipurduar along with senior railway officials.

The injured have been rushed to Alipurduar district hospital for treatment and relief and rescue work is underway, said Alipurduar DRM Sanjiv Kishore.


44 people were injured when 14 coaches of the Ajmer-Sealdah express train derailed near Rura railway station in Kanpur dehat district on December 27, 2016.

The mishap took place around 6 am near Rura railway station, 70 km from here, Northern Central Railways PRO Amit Malviya said.
