A 40-year-old man died of injuries on Sunday after he was allegedly beaten up by cops two days ago in Loni area of the district, prompting police to order a probe into the case.

The family of Rajkumar Yadav has alleged he was picked up by constable Pradeep Kumar and some other police personnel on January 23 and beaten up after he objected to their negligence in a robbery case. Yadav's neighbour had been robbed by some armed men on Thursday.

Babloo, Yadav's brother, has alleged Kumar started beating Yadav when he asked him to act in the case and took him to police station where he allegedly thrashed him again. He was let off by the police personnel on the same day.

According to a complaint filed by Yadav's family at Loni police station today, his condition after the incident deteriorated and he had to be admitted to a local hospital where he died this morning. The accused officials have denied the charges. The superintendent of police has ordered a probe into the matter, officials said.

"It seems that Yadav died of a heart attack. No brutality was adopted on the part of police. Necessary action will be taken once his post mortem report comes," said Gorakh Nath, Station-House-Officer, Loni police station.
