Memories, accolades and secrets at Sachin's book launch
The Master Blaster used to walk at night, didn't watch the World Cup final as he was superstitious
BS Reporter Mumbai Sachin Tendulkar's autobiography -- Playing It My Way -- was launched in Mumbai on Wednesday in the presence of Indian cricket giants - Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar and Ravi Shastri - and his former teammates Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman. Here is a compilation of who said what at the high-profile event:
1) Sachin used to walk at night and practice at 2.30 am. How could one sleep with all the lights on? : Sourav Ganguly
2) I sent him 34 bottles of champagne when he equalled my Test centuries: Sunil Gavaskar
2) The time Greg Chappell was coach in 2007, the environment in the team was very negative: Sachin Tendulkar
3) If I charged a penny for every time I was asked about the Multan declaration (when Sachin was not out at 194), I would be a multi-millionaire by now. But Sachin took Moin Khan's wicket and helped us win: Rahul Dravid
4) Sachin was like a fish out of water initially, but just a month later he knew the seas beloned to him: Ravi Shastri
5) Unfortunately, I missed that last moment: Sachin Tendulkar on not watching the World Cup final live despite being in the stadium. I was praying. I was a little superstitious as I had not watched the semi finals and we had won. So I continued that in the World Cup, he adds.
6) The first time Sachin wanted me to come to his house, he was a little hesitant. He said he will tell people at his home that I was a journalist. I wrote letters to him when he was in Sydney to save on telephone bills: Anjali Tendulkar
8) The captaincy started disturbing me and affecting me personally. So I felt I could contribute as a player and give all the suggestions to the next captain: Sachin Tendulkar
9) I've never ever seen any other batsman who has as much control as Sachin: VVS Laxman.
10) We wanted Sachin to go on and on. That's why we didn't celebrate his centuries: Ajit Tendulkar
