Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in the Lok Sabha were caught on the back foot when they found themselves the target of an attack from quarters they least expected: former Deputy Prime Minister, member of the BJP’s Margdarshak Mandal and the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate in the 2009 Lok Sabha election, L K Advani.
Advani has not minced words in the past about the proceedings in his party, when Narendra Modi was made chief of the campaign committee ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Advani resigned from all party positions, saying “for some time I have been finding myself to reconcile with the way the party has been functioning”. In a letter to then party president Rajnath Singh, Advani wrote that “most leaders are now concerned with personal agendas”.
