Over 500 drivers have been prosecuted and more than 400 vehicles impounded in a special drive against drunken driving, Delhi Police said Saturday.
A total of 541 drunk drivers were fined, 434 vehicles impounded and 154 owners of vehicles prosecuted between 7 p.m. and 12 midnight Friday, police said.
"The drive was held at 125 spots and as many as 600 officers were deployed with sufficient numbers of alcometers," Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Shukla said in a statement.
Of the total vehicles, 322 were two-wheelers including scooters and motorcycles, 175 cars, 14 auto-rickshaws and the rest included trucks, tempos, delivery vans etc.
"Besides prosecuting the violators, they also underwent a counselling session at the traffic police headquarters Saturday and were lectured on the ills of drunken driving and also shown short films," the statement said.
"A written pledge was also taken from the drivers that in future they would not commit such mistakes," it added.
