 "Petrol, diesel prices cut for 5th straight day: Check rates in top cities")
For the fifth consecutive day in a row, petrol and diesel prices were cut in the range of 27-30 paise across metro cities on Monday (October 22, 2018).
In the national capital, petrol is priced at Rs 81.44 per litre, 30 paise down from Sunday's price of Rs 81.74. With the similar decline in price, the fuel is currently being retailed at Rs 86.91 in Mumbai.
In Kolkata and Chennai, petrol now costs Rs 83.29 and Rs 84.64 per litre, respectively.
Diesel prices have also declined in tandem with the petrol prices.
With a revision of around 28 paise, diesel is priced at Rs 74.92 in Delhi, Rs 78.54 in Mumbai, Rs 76.77 in Kolkata and Rs 79.22 in Chennai.
Petrol pumps in Delhi will remain shut today in protest against Delhi government's refusal to reduce VAT on fuels. Along with the pump, CNG dispensing units will also remain shut.
There are about 400 petrol pumps in Delhi which also have linked compressed natural gas (CNG) stations and all of them will remain closed for nearly 24 hours in protest from 6 am onwards on October 22 and remain closed till 5 am on October 23, the Delhi Petrol Dealers Association (DPDA) said in a statement.
DPDA president Nischal Singhania said customers are deserting petrol pumps in Delhi as fuel is cheaper in bordering states like Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
"DPDA urges the Delhi government to immediately reduce VAT on petrol and diesel and encourage commuters to buy euro VI fuel and save the livelihood of employees and owners of petrol pumps of Delhi and also save state's revenue loss," the statement said.
