A new low temperature thermal desalination (LTTD) technology plant would come up at the Tuticorin thermal power station in Tamil Nadu.

This will convert sea water into potable water.Harsh Vardhan, minister of earth sciences, in a written reply informed the Rajya Sabha that the work had been initiated to set up this plant, which has a capacity to generate 2 million litre potable water per day. In this methodology, the warmer surface sea water is evaporated at low pressure and the vapour obtained are condensed using the colder deep sea water.
