Residents of Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district castigated Pakistan for creating an environment of panic at the time of Eid al-Adha.

Encounter between holed up militants and security forces in Poonch Sector is underway.

"This is a conspiracy from the side of Pakistan, especially on the occasion of Eid. Such incidents should not take place and especially not on pious occasions. Militants, who are responsible for such activities, either should be handed over to the army or be killed. This is shameful act by Pakistan, that too on Eid," said a resident of Poonch district.

Fresh rounds of fire between the security forces and militants were exchanged between the two sides at the mini secretariat building earlier on Monday morning.

A policeman died and another was injured while seven terrorists died in four separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.

Three of the encounters were with terrorists who were trying to infiltrate in Tangdhar, Gurez and Nowgam Sectors. The other was between the police and a group of terrorists who had held up in a building in Poonch Sector.

Dozens of people, meanwhile, were injured after a joint team of security forces carried out raids at Pulwama's Karimabaf village.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday chaired a high-level meeting on Kashmir later in the day, attended by the National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, IB Chief Dineshwar Sharma, BSF DG KK Sharma and Home Secretary Anil Goswami.
