Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Ram Shinde yesterday launched the radio centre at the central jail here, the third prison in the country to have such a facility after Delhi's Tihar jail and Pune's Yerawada jail.
After inaugurating the radio centre at a specially prepared studio inside the jail premises, Shinde said that prisoners can take good lessons from it and become better citizens after being released from the prison.
A studio has been set up inside the prison from where daily various programmes will be broadcast for three hours between 10.30 AM and 1.30 PM, only in the Nashik Central Jail for its inmates.
The programmes will be presented by the inmates themselves which will include poems, songs, mimicry, bhajans and expert guidance on law and health-related issues, jail superintendent J S Naik said.
Auditions of some inmates have been done to rope them as announcers for the programmes, he said.
A daily schedule of the programmes to be broadcast has also been prepared for the purpose, he said.
Special IG, Nashik Range, Praveen Salunkhe and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
Later, Shinde held a meeting with senior government officials to review preparations for the Kumbh mela to be held here later this year.
