Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday approved funding proposals of Rs 606 crore and Rs 221 crore for development projects in Amritsar and Ludhiana. These now await approval from the Ministry of Urban Development under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme.
A government spokesperson said the decision was taken at a meeting of the State Level Steering Committee under JNNURM held at the chief minister's residence this morning.
The spokesperson added the two projects of water supply and sewerage that were approved for Amritsar included a Rs 71-crore water supply scheme in newly developed Abadi outside the walled city Phase-II and Rs 106-crore sewerage scheme in the south-east zone. Apart from these, 430-crore projects including six roads and a solid waste management project were also approved during the meeting. The Rs 495-crore bus rapid transit system for Amritsar had already been approved, which includes Rs 36 crore for improvement of the Bhandari Bridge.
For Ludhiana, the chief minister had approved Rs 117 crore project the extension and augmentation of the water supply scheme's phase-I and -II, beside a solid waste management project of Rs 105 crore, said the spokesperson. The bus projects under JNNURM's public transport services for Jalandhar (Rs 59 crore) and Patiala (Rs 25 crore) were also discussed at the meeting.
