The Samajwadi Party (SP) Wednesday opened its account in Karnataka with its candidate CP Yogeshwara winning from Channapatna, about 60 km from here.

The SP candidate, who got his party the first seat in the southern state, defeated Janata Dal-S' Anita Kumaraswamy, wife of the party's state president and former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy.

UP Chief Minister and SP leader Akhilesh Yadav had also campaigned for Yogeshwara.
