Smartur, a city-based startup that provides digital content solutions to schools and students, is in talks with the Telangana government to offer Smartur3D, its experimental learning tool, to around 1,500 government schools that are equipped with necessary hardware.

“We are already piloting our Smartur3D software at some Zilla Parishad schools in Telangana. We expect the talks with the state government to reach fruition in a couple of months. Our idea is to offer our software for free to government schools for the next two to three years,” said founder and chief executive Neeraj Jewalkar.

Developed using a gamification software platform, it is a school-focused 3D classroom solution that has visualisation features including augmented reality, stereoscopic 3D and interactive 3D. The application provides real-life models covering science topics from class 6 to 12. At present, Smartur3D is being used in over 500 schools in the US, and close to 125 schools in Hyderabad, Pune and Mumbai.

Stating that the company was licencing Smartur3D (science) for Rs 30,000 per school per year across all classrooms, Jewalkar said Smartur was working on 3D classroom solutions for mathematics and geography, which will be introduced in schools next academic year.

According to Jewalkar, India has around 1.5 million schools, of which 200,000 are in the private sector. Of these, 80 per cent don’t have any digital learning solution. “This is an opportunity that we intend to tap into,” he said, adding that the company was planning to have its Smartur3D solution in around 1,500 private schools in the next academic year.
