The third merit list of first year junior college (FYJC) admissions in Mumbai was announced on July 12, 2016 at 5:00 PM. The students allotted seats will have two days, July 13 and July 14, 2016 to secure admissions. The reporting centres (RCs) are open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and the fee amount is Rs 50.

In the third list, cut-offs percentage for arts and commerce remained largely unchanged from the previous list, while science stream dipped almost 10% compared to the second list in most of the top tier colleges. The percentages of the subsequent colleges witnessed 5-15% across science and arts. The commerce colleges witnessed the marginal change, due to the higher number of applicants, in the cut-off percentages.

The merit list was scheduled for release on July 11, 2016, but the authorities notified the change in schedule on the FYJC Mumbai Metropolitan Region official site earlier.

According to media reports, over 1,000 students have been left out of third list. State education department officials offer that these students had opted for colleges and courses that had higher cut-offs than their scores.

So, although the department had planned to hold only three admission rounds, the core admission committee is likely to deliberate on an additional round to allocate seats to the students that have been left out. The department will reportedly hold a fourth merit list round for such students on July 18, 2016.

The third merit list

Almost 2.2 lakh candidates had registered themselves for the admissions this year. In the first round, a total of 1,84,977 seats were allotted. The list was announced on June 27. The second meritlist, declared on July 4, 2016, too had students struggling with admissions due tosoaring cut-offs.
