Government today said its position on the climate change negotiations is anchored in the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Bali Action Plan (BAP) adopted in the Conference of Parties (COP) in Bali in 2007.

"India has argued in the international negotiating fora that the COP must take actions in accordance with the UNFCCC principles of equity and "common but differentiated" in order to achieve its objectives," State Finance Minister Namo Narai Meena said in reply to a query in Rajya Sabha.

He added that while actions of rich nations should include deep and ambitious targets for emission reduction in the second commitment period (post 2012) of the Kyoto Protcol, the developing nations actions will depend on the support in term of finance and technology from them.

"While India has already taken a number of steps on its own to adapt and mitigate climate change impacts in the interest of sustainable developments, it will take further measures as defined under its National Action Plan on Climate Change," the Minister added.
