Army troops gunned down two militants including a foreign mercenary in separate encounters and recovered some arms and ammunition in Kashmir valley since Saturday night.

A defence ministry spokesman said a foreign militant was killed when security forces retaliated after they were fired upon by ultras during search operations at Panjua forest in Kupwara yesterday.

An AK asault rifle with four magazines, 101 rounds, a grenade launcher with three grenades and a wireless set were recovered from the slain militant, he said. He said security forces also killed a militant of the banned Hizbul Mujahideen at Kongun in Anantnag district.
