Even as the CBI questioned former NDA finance minister Jaswant Singh in the 2G spectrum allocation scam, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came out to defend its member, terming the questioning “laughable.” Singh headed the Group of Ministers on the issues of limited mobility and unified licensing during the relevant period.
The CBI has already initiated a preliminary enquiry to probe the role of telecom ministers between 2001 and 2007. While BJP leaders Arun Shourie and late Pramod Mahajan were telecom ministers between 2001 and 2003, Dayanidhi Maran was the UPA’s telecom minister. The CBI has already recorded Shourie’s statement.
Defence its senior leader, the BJP leadership said CBI didn’t question home minister Chidambaram, whose alleged involvement in the 2G spectrum allocation was coming to the surface on a daily basis, in the form of letters and documents.
“It is laughable that CBI questions Jaswant Singh but not Chidambaram. The CBI has already given a clean chit to Chidambaram. We demand that CBI questions the PM,” BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said.
