The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs yesterday cleared three infrastructure projects worth Rs 687.83 crore.
The projects which were accorded clearances include one 60 mw power project in North East to be executed by the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited, ONGC's proposal for setting up "additional co-generation facilities and the Tuticorin Capital Dredging project in Tamil Nadu.
The power project in the north east which is being executed at an estimated cost of Rs 368.72 crore including an interest during construction of Rs 21 crore comes under the new initiatives programme for the north-eastern region announced the government. The project is estimated to generate around 241 million units of energy for the region.
The ONGC co-generation project which expected to cost around Rs 116 crore is expected to yield 90 MT of steam which will enable the operation of a 19.2mw power project. The project which is coming up Uran(West of Bombay), ONGC'c process complex , has a capacity to process around 20 million metric tonne of Oil and 11 million standard cubic meters of gas.
As power is an important input , this project will provide the required power through captive generation. The Tuticorin project on the other hand is estimated to cost Rs 202.16 crore which include Rs 15.77 crore in the form of capital interest and Rs 63.38 crore in foreign exchange.
The proposal is to deepen the approach channel and the harbour basin areas at Tuticorin Port to 10.37 metres draught.
After dredging the capacity of port will go up from 8.25 million tonne to 11.65 million tonne since the port will be able to accommodate larger vessels for loading or discharging cargo.
