Fair trade regulator Competition Commission of India (CCI) is looking to hire over 30 people for various director-level positions, as part of its efforts to address manpower crunch.

The CCI, which keeps a tab on unfair business practices across sectors, had more than 70 posts vacant at the end of March this year.

In recent times, the watchdog has been making efforts to strengthen its manpower amid a rising number of complaints related to alleged unfair business practices received by it.

Besides, CCI gets notices seeking approval for mergers and acquisitions.

Now, the regulator has sought applications for as many as 32 posts. These include directors, joint directors and deputy directors in the field of financial analysis, economics and law.

Applications have been sought for 26 positions in the professional staff category — five directors, 10 joint directors and 11 deputy directors.

Besides, in the support staff category, two posts each for deputy directors and assistant directors (corporate services) are to be filled. One application each has also been called for the post of principal private secretary and private secretary.

“Applicants must be employees of central or state governments, government companies or autonomous bodies or regulatory authorities or universities or academics or research or judicial institutions, etc, of central/state governments,” CCI said in an announcement.

The appointments will be on a deputation basis. Out of the sanctioned strength of 197, as many as 72 positions were vacant at the fair trade regulator at the end of March 31, according to corporate affairs ministry’s data.

The number of vacancies was slightly higher than 68 seen in 2014-15, while it was 92 in 2013-14.
