The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Saturday said it welcomed the Supreme Court decision to partially lift the ban on iron ore mining in Karnataka’s Bellary district. The apex court had allowed only public sector mining major NMDC to operate in Bellary. It had barred private companies from mining or exporting the mineral in an order passed on Friday. NMDC could excavate two of its mines in the region to produce one million tonnes of iron ore every month to meet the requirement of the domestic steel industry.
