Chief minister, K Rosaiah, has directed the roads and buildings department to explore the possibility of going for long term loans for implementation of important road projects in the State during the next five years. He wanted the department to take up road works under different schemes including the World Bank funded projects.
At a review meeting held on Monday, officials informed Rosaiah that out of the 7 road projects under upgradation and improvement, two road works were in progress. This apart, 11 projects, covering a length of 2,013 km, were grounded under long term, performance-based maintenance contracts.
According to an official press release, it has been decided at the meeting to call for tenders for the balance 26 packages covering a length of for 4,228 km before August 2010.
Rosaiah asked the department to conduct a feasibility study for taking up the 164 km long Sangareddy--Narsapur --Toopran--Gajvel--Bhongir--Chityal, 115 Km Kurnool-Nandikotkur--Atmakur, 163 km Mahbubnagar--Nalgonda road and 70 kms Konda Modu--Guntur roads under public-private partnership.
He agreed to consider release of funds for land acquisition and other preliminary works of Hyderabad-Karimnagar-Ramagundam highway, upgradation of Narketpally--Addanki--Medaramitla road and improvement of road from Nellore to Gooty. The total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs.3165 crore and project duration is 5 years from signing of loan agreement.
