The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today filed another report against six Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (OC) officials, for extending undue favours to a company involved in merchandising and retailing of sports wear.
The CBI raided several places in Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh and Panchkula. The complaint was registered against Premier Brand and Private Limited, a subsidiary of Compact Disc India Limited. The six OC officials named were V K Verma, director general; M Jaychandran, joint DG; Surjit Lal, DDG, procurement; Ram Mohan, DDG, legal group; K U K Reddy, ADG, F&A; and Sangita Welingkar, ADG, look and imaging, a CBI official said. All six were considered close to former OC chairman Suresh Kalmadi, who is in judicial custody.
The CBI official said: “The OC members scrapped, on flimsy grounds, the bids of other companies which had applied for the tender. Premier Brands and Private Limited (PBPL) was then given the contract on the basis of goodwill of its parent company, CDIL. After negotiations, Rs 5 crore was paid by PBPL to the OC in two instalments of Rs 2.5 crore. The cheques were then dishonoured by the bank.”
