The spiritual leader of Tibet, the Dalai Lama on Wednesday expressed concern over the global warming and its impact on the Himalayan Kingdom.

“The global warming poses a real danger to the mankind of Tibet as many rivers in the region have their origin from Tibet”, the Dalai Lama told at Jirang, a Tibetan settlement in south Orissa’s Gajapati district.

Lama denied that his presence and activities in the country could adversely affect the Sino-India relationship, adding, “India and China are large countries and they should maintain a good relationship.”

He, however, stressed China should maintain transparency to ensure a better relationship between New Delhi and Beijing.

Lama sounded optimistic on China giving autonomy to Tibet given its new economic status.

Dalai Lama, who fled to India after the Chinese occupation of Tibet in 1959, lives in exile in the northern Indian hill town of Dharmasala (Himachal Pradesh).
